Sony Cancels European PS3 Launch
A sign of things to come for Sony?
In an event that many will view as another nail in the coffin of an ailing system; Sony has indefinitly postponed the launch of it's console in all European and Austrailian territories.
In an interview with Kaz Hirai, the CEO was quoted as saying, "While we regret the loss of two major markets, we believe that the PS3 will be successful enough in the United States and Japan, certainly enough to justify the loss of the European territories".
In the US, the PS3 has failed to catch fire as its predecessor did in 2000. However, Sony believes that this is merely the beginning of a marathon race, rather than a sprint. Seems consumers look at the entire situation in a different light.
An SCEE spokesperson commented, "The reason we went down this route, which has met with a mixed response, is in order to maximise the number of consoles available to the markets we believe hold precedence".
Various Web sites have been offering preorders for the PS3. It is unclear as of now how Sony plans to refund the thousands of disappointed gamers in Europe and Austrailia.

Wow, I don't even like the PS3 and I didn't expect this...
Honestly it doesn't matter, what Kaz said is true, Eruope and especially austrailia are pointless when it comes to total console sales. The United States are now the major players when it comes to market share. Sorry... It's just the truth...
I doubt they will never release it there, prolly didn't have enuff systems..
lol, I find it funny how they think this will actually help them sell.
uhhh? apperantly i lost intrest when i realized that it said SONY n the money problem again...i already got a 360...aint getting the PS3...suks...but the money is a big factor....
Kinda smart. The console doesn't really need to be released anywhere else, it's a waste of time and money...
Hey Europe!
Sony hates you and so does your own retailers.
I love all the little kiddies on here accusing each other of not knowing anything about "Marketing" because their fan-site aquired marketing knowledge is maybe one year ahead of the other.
It's not like anyoen in europe was gonna buy it anyways...
My local Gamecrazy and Gamestop have a ton sitting on their shelfs. Send me the money, I'll get you one!

OldWiseBob I don't see how this article can be twisted anyway.... So the Europeans are screwed outta there pre-orders?
either way, people who do this are wasting their money. the smarter ones are those who grab something made other then sony
Another day, another PS3 news article. Must be a popular system.
I say buy it then return the PS3 and buy a Xbox360, but keep the PSP for no other reason than it can do everything the PS3 can but for half the price.
Uh - come to Charlotte, NC. I've been seeing PS3's on the shelf here since the beginning of January. Nobody around here wants them.
lol, some of you guys are.. wow. Special.
You act as though Sony actually had a say in this matter.
@gorilla_killa:
How long have you been here? 2 weeks?
Remember this:
GameStop offering $699 Wii bundle
http://www.gamespot.com/news/6161239.html
And if you google on 360's and bundle deals at launch, you get stuff like EB Games' Xbox 360 Ultimate Bundle that sets you back $699.92.
So it's not just Sony's console that's sold in this way...
Good thing demand is dying down for the PS3. This is a dirt bag maneuver.
I don't think many people saw this coming... BUT I DID! LOL
